Dadu River’s Largest Hydropower Plant Entered the 5G Era

Lately, the mobile 5G base station project in the production and office areas of Dadu River Pubugou Hydropower General Plant, including Pubugou and Shenxigou hydropower stations, under CHN Energy accomplished the acceptance testing. The test showed that the 5G coverage rate at these 2 stations reached 100%, achieving full coverage of 5G signals in all factory facilities and marking that the plant has entered the 5G era.

Pubugou and Shenxigou hydropower stations under Dadu River Pubugou Hydropower General Plant, with a total installed capacity of 4,260MW, are CHN Energy’s largest hydropower plant on grid. In the past three years, the general plant averagely generated 17 billion kWh of electricity each year. To further standardize the management of communication equipment and terminals, ensure safe, reliable operation of its communication system and better enhance workplace safety, the plant launched a project to explore the application value of 5G technology in the hydropower industry in early 2022. In April, it began to construct a 5G network covering the entire hydropower plant, which was completed and passed the acceptance testing in October.

Relying on 5G’s technical advantages such as high speed, low latency and multiple connections, the plant has vigorously carried out exploration and practice in the application of 5G-based industrial internet. It organized on-spot investigations and signal model simulations many times, constantly optimized the construction plan, and actively coordinated technical resources to guide 5G construction in the plant to jointly push forward the construction of a new-type network spatial architecture that features “5G + intelligent hydropower plant”, which lays an infrastructure foundation for production scheduling and safety in its hydropower stations and effectively improves its capacity in digital, intelligent hydropower generation.
