Hydrogen Filling System National Standards Formulated under the Leadership of National Institute of Clean-and-Low-Carbon Energy Put into Use

Recently, the national standard for hydrogen filling systems (No. GB/T 31138-2022), drafted by institutions such as China National Institute of Standardization under the leadership of National Institute of Clean-and-Low-Carbon Energy (NICE), a subsidiary of CHN Energy, was officially put into use, which replaced the GB/T 31138-2014 standard for vehicle compressed hydrogen filling systems.

The 35MPa and 70MPa hydrogen quick filling technology developed by NICE can complete refueling logistic vehicles in 3-5 minutes, buses in 5-8 minutes, and heavy-duty trucks in 10 minutes. In 2021, the 35MPa hydrogen quick filling system and hydrogen station technology were included in the 2020 List of Recommended Scientific and Technological Innovations by Centrally Administered Enterprises issued by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, and the list of first (set) major technical equipment in the energy sector by the National Energy Administration of China. Meanwhile, the 35/70MPa hydrogen filling system developed by NICE is the first of its kind in China to obtain international authentication. On September 21, 2022, Zhongtian Huaqing Co., Ltd., in which NICE invested with its intellectual property in hydrogen filling station and system, was officially inaugurated, marking that the institute’s hydrogen filling station technology entered a stage of commercialization.

The formulation and promulgation of this standard will further improve China’s hydrogen energy standards system, guide the development of safe, reliable, efficient and quick hydrogen filling technologies, ensure the safe operation of hydrogen filling stations, and boost the high-quality development of CHN Energy in terms of hydrogen energy technology and industry.
