As of November 8, Dadu River Pubugou Hydropower General Plant under CHN Energy had generated clean electricity equivalent to reducing CO2 Emissions by 200 million tons and planting 600,000 hectares of trees since it began operation. By doing so, it has accelerated the harmonious development of hydropower generation and environmental protection, and made great contributions to conserving the eco-environment in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and realizing the carbon peak and neutrality goals.
As the largest hydropower project under CHN Energy, the general plant consists of the Pubugou and Shenxigou hydropower stations and is an ultra-large water conservancy and hydropower hub focusing on electricity generation while incorporating functions like flood control and sand interception. It undertakes the important tasks of power supply, peak and frequency scheduling, and emergency backup for the Sichuan power grid.
Since its first generating unit was put into operation in December 2009, the general plant has adhered to the principle of placing equal emphasis on power generation and environmental protection, actively implemented various requirements on safety and environmental protection, and earnestly fulfilled its responsibility in ecological conservation. Moreover, it gives full play to the advantage of hydropower as a kind of clean energy, responds to the call of guaranteeing power supply, boosts science-based development through safe development, and advances green development with science-based development. It puts in practice the principle of refined, precise management, and comprehensively screens safety risks in equipment operation to enhance equipment stability and reliability and ensure safe operation. Following the principle of “making good use of every drop of water to generate power as much as possible,” the general plant actively communicates with the power scheduling authority to seek to enhance power generation results. While focusing on economic returns, it gives full play to its achievements in the construction of intelligent power plants, constantly optimizes the operation of generating units, and strengthens loading curve management. As a result, it has achieved accurate prediction of river situations, reduced water waste, and maximally enhance the utilization efficiency of hydro energy and generate more clean electricity. Through enhancing quality and efficiency, promoting energy conservation and emission reduction, and effectively making use of the advantage of hydropower as a kind of clean energy, it makes great contributions to the “Beautiful China” initiative that aims to protect clear rivers and blue skies. Moreover, it has established and implemented the floating debris regular removal mechanism throughout the reservoir area, improving the eco-environment around the reservoir, purifying the water quality of the river.
