China’s First 1000MW Generating Unit Desulfurization Wastewater Reduction Project Succeeded

As of November 15, the desulfurization wastewater evaporation-based concentration and reduction equipment in the No. 3 indirect air-cooling tower of Ningxia Power’s Yuanyang Lake Power Plant Phase II under CHN Energy had cut desulfurization wastewater discharge by 105,000 tons, realizing economic returns of 3.8 million yuan and achieving both environmental and economic benefits. This is the first time that the “desulfurization wastewater treatment device” independently developed by the company has been successfully applied in a 1000MW generating unit.

The desulfurization wastewater reduction project was listed among the first batch of scientific and technological innovation demonstration projects of CHN Energy in 2021. According to the plan, a special “desulfurization wastewater evaporation tower” and corresponding auxiliary devices would be built respectively in the No.3 and No. 4 indirect air-cooling towers in the 2X1000MW generating units of Yuanyang Lake Power Plant Phase II. With the pressurization of circulating water pumps, desulfurization wastewater is sent to the “desulfurization wastewater evaporation tower”, where it is sprayed through water distribution pipes and nozzles, and flows against high-temperature, low-humidity air for heat transfer and mass transfer, so as to realize the evaporation-based concentration and reduction of desulfurization wastewater. This technology can solve problems concerning desulfurization wastewater assimilation, laying a solid foundation for achieving zero desulfurization wastewater discharge in the next stage. At present, the evaporation-based concentration reduction equipment for desulfurization wastewater in the No. 4 indirect air-cooling tower of Yuanyang Lake Power Plant Phase II is under installation and debugging and will be put into use by the end of this year.
